Fortunately for myself, this year Keith decided to support the " BBC Children in Need" appeal that takes place in the UK every November, by auctioning an item of his on Ebay. All the proceeds from the auction would go to the appeal fund.
During the 60's, Keith Hopwood was a member of the band Herman's Hermits, whose popularity at one point rivalled the Beatles in America.
During its lifespan the band sold an estimated 60 million records worldwide.
While Keith was still with the band he founded Pluto Music with fellow band member Derek Leckenby . It was with Pluto that Keith carried on working with when he left the Hermits in the early 70's.He still continued to record and some of his work can be found on the in the shape of two cds that you can purchase.
The item that Keith offered up for auction was a coat that he had brought in New York in 1965 to keep him warm during a Herman's Hermits tour of USA, as the particulary cold winter had suprised the band hence the reason to buy extra cold weather clothing and the coat was to serve Keith well in the tours over the next few years. With the coat ,Keith also offered the opportunity to collect the coat personally, which I found too good a chance to miss and so I put my bid in and fortunately I was successful. Then through the technology of email, a collection time and date was arranged.
